DME Academy 73, West Oaks 63
The local Louisville basketball fans packed the gym tonight to see the newest commit to coach Pat kelsey’s team Mikel Brown Jr. play in the Grind Session event in Louisville. Browns DME Academy team from Daytona Beach Florida took on West Oaks and beat them 73-63. Brown and his teammate Nathan Kirk each put in 25 points in the victory with Trey Simpson III getting a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Mikel Brown is a five star point guard from Orlando Florida and he chose Louisville over Arizona, Maryland, Kentucky, and Indiana. When asked what he thought about the crowd full of Louisville fans he said “Even before the game, just seeing the crowd, there was a whole lot of red in here. That’s why I love this fan base. That’s why I love this community. That’s why I can’t wait to step on campus next year.” The game was a rematch from November where West Oaks beat DME Academy 85-78. The game was close until the end when DME pulled away for the victory. West Oaks takes on Winston-Salem Christian tomorrow at 10:45 am and DME Academy takes on a tough Huntington Expression Prep team at 3:30pm. West Oaks were led in the loss by Marcus Ponder with a double double scoring 19 points and grabbing an amazing 17 boards. Willie Burnett III had 22 points to lead West Oaks in scoring.
DME Academy 75, Grind Prep 58
Gigi Battle the game MVP just missed a double double getting 23 points with 9 rebounds. Chikae Desdunes was right behind Battle putting in 22 points in the victory. The game was a hard fought battle in the first half with the score going back and forth between the two teams. The girls were battling hard all over the court in the first three quarters but then DME Academy took over a built a double digit lead in the late second half. Asya Lara Barnes had 14 points in the win. Leading Grind Prep was Da’Nae Jefferson with 17 points and 6 rebounds while her teammate De’Andre Minor had a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The game was another fantastic showing from the Revolution Conference teams. The Grind Session women’s teams are showing America how good the women’s game has become, and each game continues to show how talented these ladies are on the court.
Mount Zion 80, Chicago prep 70
Mount Zion Prep played in its first ever Grind Session game Saturday night against Chicago Prep in Louisville and beat the windy city boys 80-70. Mt. Zion took an early 19-4 lead in the first quarter of the game but Chicago Prep answered back and in the second quarter and tied the game with a few minutes left in the half. Mt. Zion had 5 players in double figures with Quron Elliot leading the way with 19 points. Kameryn Wylie had a double double with 17 points and 13 boards in the win. Tristian Ford the commit to Murray State dropped 25 points in the loss for his team while teammate Mike Jones had a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Ethan Samules also had 16 points in the loss. Mt. Zion Prep takes on The Rock at 10:45 am tomorrow morning while Chicago Prep is done for the event. Mt. Zion Prep is the #15 team on the ESPN top 25 boys high school teams in America.
