Fishers, IN — Prolific Prep’s unforgettable season came to a close Friday afternoon in Indiana, as they fell to Dynamic Prep 83-64 in the semi-final round of the Chipotle Nationals. The game marked the final high school appearance for Kansas commit Darryn Peterson, who once again delivered a brilliant performance on the national stage.
Peterson, one of the top prospects in the country, poured in 27 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists, leading Prolific Prep in scoring for the final time. Despite his heroics, the squad couldn’t overcome the absence of standout big man Niko Bundalo, who was sidelined with a groin injury sustained in the thrilling quarter-final win over Long Island Lutheran the night before.
The loss ends what has been a dominant and historic season for Prolific Prep and head coach Ryan Bernardi. The program captured its third straight Grind Session World Championship in undefeated fashion—a first in the history of the elite winter basketball circuit. Their three-peat not only cements Prolific Prep’s place in Grind Session lore, but it also showcases the elite development and culture of excellence the program continues to build.
For Peterson, this final week of high school hoops was a whirlwind. After shining in the McDonald’s All American Game at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center—where he took home MVP honors—he traveled straight to Indiana with his sights set on adding a national title to his résumé. Though the ultimate prize slipped away, there’s no questioning the impact he’s had on the high school game and the legacy he leaves behind.
Peterson now turns his focus to the next chapter, heading to Lawrence, Kansas, where he’ll suit up for legendary coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks. With his elite scoring ability, athleticism, and basketball IQ, he’s expected to make an immediate impact in the Big 12 and beyond as he begins his journey toward the NBA.
As the curtain falls on the 2024-25 Grind Session season, the focus now shifts to the future. AAU basketball kicks off this weekend, and all eyes are on the next wave of talent ready to emerge. The next Grind Session stars are out there—training, competing, and preparing to make their mark when October rolls around.
For now, we salute the champions, the competitors, and especially Darryn Peterson, whose journey is just beginning. The Grind never stops.
