Iowa United Wins Grind Session Play-In Event in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, October 3-6, 2024

The Grind Session Play-In event, held in Hopkinsville, Kentucky from October 3-6, delivered thrilling competition as 10 teams battled for the final spot in the elite Power Conference. Emerging victorious was Iowa United, led by head coach Dean Oliver, who secured the coveted final spot with a 3-0 record.

Dean Oliver brings a wealth of experience to Iowa United. A former standout player at the University of Iowa from 1997-2001, Oliver also spent time in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors (2001-2002) and enjoyed a successful professional career overseas. Before taking the helm at Iowa United, Oliver served as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin from 2017-2024 under head coach Greg Gard, helping to build the Badgers into a competitive force.

Iowa United’s Road to Victory

In the Hopkinsville Play-In event, Iowa United showcased its talent and determination, defeating Victory Rock Prep, Trinity Prep, and West Oaks to claim the championship. In a hard-fought final game, Iowa United bested West Oaks 72-64, securing their place in The Grind Session’s Power Conference for the 2024-2025 season.

Looking Ahead: Power Conference Competition

With their Play-In victory, Iowa United is set to join the Power Conference and will make their debut in The Grind Session’s opening event in Denver, Colorado, on November 1-3. The competition will be fierce, but after their impressive showing in Hopkinsville, Iowa United is ready to make their mark on the national stage.
